Fashion: My Love
I love fashion.
The ruffles, drapes, denim, sturdy, soft, loose, comforting, engaging, homely (as the British say), eccentric, shimmery, bold--fashion. The fashion that serves you in the ways you need while also expressing your true self. Fashion is emotional, and fashion is one of my true loves.
This is the very reason my profession has never strayed far from clothes. Starting my career in 2014--discovering the boutique world, activewear, swimwear, and the “promo’s worlds” classic basic essentials (t-shirts, hoodies, hats, etc.)--I’ve been given many amazing opportunities to see so many fashion-based industries, and I’m desperate to learn more. And by learning, I want to write.
Not only does the industry in general intrigue me, but my wardrobe has slowly become a piece of art. My mom worked in a second-hand store in my teen years, My Sister’s Closet, which allowed her to clothe all 4 of us sisters for 10+ years. I even worked there myself for about 4 years. This gave me the amazing opportunity to learn content design, boutique buying, photo shoot management, content marketing, photography, videography, graphic design, and customer service; the exciting opportunities of the boutique world.

For the majority of the last 10 years, my career focus has mainly been on digital-based content. It’s been really eye-opening and growth-oriented to take up different skills one by one. I have to say, though, just creating something, whether it’s a logo, branding guidelines, or a BOGO sale graphic, I really just loved digitally creating something, doing so artistically - and the ability to share with a wider online audience (See my 2016-2020 portfolio).
I spent 2022 and 2023 designing, creating, and putting literally my blood, sweat, and tears into sewing my own wedding dress. This gave me the opportunity to explore pattern design, fabric/textiles, mood boarding, and passion discovery as I sewed and succeeded in creating my precious wedding dress. It finally became a reality. I had dreamed about doing exactly that since I was a young elementary school girl. It was an extremely difficult and humbling experience to say the least. The confidence and pride was unmatched knowing how much time, energy and heart I truly put into it. I loved it, I absolutely loved it.
Truthfully, I didn’t know how much I had missed the true hands-on art of it all. The tasks that use all your senses and leave you with a piece of art you can touch, feel, smell, hear, almost taste. I’ve held onto my childhood fashion Project Runway booklets, hoping maybe one day I would go back to them. And now, since the wedding, I’ve spent my weekends on new fun projects to add to my wardrobe.
I’m a girl who loves fashion. I’m learning how to sew and pattern design. I am passionate about clothing pieces that feel like home, expression, warmth, and heirloom art. That is the kind of wardrobe I feel I’ve built and continue to build. And it’s pretty damn exciting and fun to write about all of it, isn’t it?
Thank you for being here. Seriously, thank you.
